Scabies, Bed Bugs, and Other Pestilence

Remember the bed bug epidemic last year, well it seems there is another bug outbreak. The microscopic mite called scabies is infesting local dormitories, nursing homes, and daycare facilities in North Carolina.

A dormitory at UNC Greensboro began to receive complaints by multiple students of bug bites. The culprit was scabies. The entire dormitory had to be treated even if they showed no signs of being bitten.

Undetectable by the human eye, scabies can crawl underneath the skin where they lay eggs and begin to infest the body. Scabies can cause severe itching accompanied by reddish pimple like bumps on the skin.

A prescription topical cream is one of the most effective treatments in getting rid of the little pest. For more information on Scabies contact your healthcare provider.
